I’m Tilly Walnes, founder of Tilly and the Buttons, award-winning sewing pattern designer, author, and sewing teacher. If you’re ready to learn how to make your own clothes in a fun and accessible way, you’re in the right place!

Meet your teacher, Tilly Walnes
I started sewing as a creative escape, and what began as a hobby quickly turned into a passion – and then a career! Drawing on my professional background in education, I founded Tilly and the Buttons to help modern makers learn how to sew with confidence. No confusing patterns or dry instructions – just clear guidance, stylish projects, and lots of encouragement.
Since then, I’ve:
- Published four bestselling sewing books, including my latest ‘Mini Makes’ – the go-to resource for clothesmaking for babies and children
- Launched over 50 individual sewing patterns (and counting), loved by makers worldwide
- Taught many sewing classes and demonstrations, including for partners such as Janome, on shopping TV, and live on stage with Kirstie Allsopp at the Handmade Festival
